A friend recently sent me this graph tracking the closed real estate transactions of 2018. The deep red line is 2018. Keep in mind that closings are typically negotiated 30-60 days prior to closing. June and August had steep inclines in velocity however the remainder of the year it really tapered off and ended the year at the lowest number of close sales in the past 7 years while August set the record for the most closings in the past 10 years.
As the stock market continues to be volatile, and the interest rate remains low despite the slight uptick it had in 2018, we will see what 2019 brings. I’d say it will likely be challenged by low inventory.
